ADVANCED TOW ASSIST

WARNING

The driver is always responsible for detecting obstacles, and for estimating both the trailer and the vehicle’s distance from them, when maneuvering. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death.

NOTES

Using towing equipment approved by the vehicle manufacturer is recommended. Non-approved towing equipment may adversely affect the accuracy, performance, and safety of the vehicle's towing features.

NOTES

Advanced tow assist does not operate if the tailgate is open, or unlatched. In this event, the touch screen displays a message.

NOTES

Advanced tow assist does not operate if the All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) feature is enabled. See USING ALL TERRAIN PROGRESS CONTROL (ATPC).

Advanced tow assist allows steering control, via the terrain response rotary control, for the intended trajectory of a connected trailer while reversing.

Make sure that the trailer is correctly connected and calibrated, as described in the tow assist topic. Failure to do this causes the advanced tow assist icon to be unavailable for selection. See TOW ASSIST .

To activate advanced tow assist, proceed as follows:

  1. Make sure that the terrain response rotary control is in the elevated position, for terrain response driving program selection. See TERRAIN RESPONSE OPERATION.

  2. With the vehicle stationary, and Reverse (R) selected, pull the terrain response rotary control further upward.

    NOTES

If R is not selected, the touch screen displays a message.

The advanced tow assist icon is now available for selection on the camera menu screen, touch the icon to enable the feature. See SURROUND CAMERA SYSTEM.

NOTES

If the advanced tow assist icon is not available for selection, confirm that the trailer is correctly connected and calibrated, and repeat steps 1 and 2.

Correct activation of advanced tow assist is confirmed via a touch screen message. The vehicle’s steering control is then transferred to the terrain response rotary control.

Rotate the terrain response rotary control to set the intended steering trajectory path for the trailer, which is displayed on the touch screen. The vehicle automatically steers so that the reversing trailer follows the intended steering trajectory path.

NOTES

The driver must control the vehicle's speed via the use of the accelerator and brake pedals.

The touch screen displays the trajectory path of the reversing trailer, using various colored lines.

Each different color indicates the status of the reversing trailer:

  • Green lines indicate the trailer is reversing in a straight line.

  • Magenta lines indicate the trailer is reversing at an angle.

  • Red lines indicate the trailer's reversing angle is too acute.

To override the operation of advanced tow assist, turn the steering wheel. In this event, the touch screen displays a canceled message.

The maximum operational speed for advanced tow assist is 5.6 mph (9 km/h). If this speed is exceeded, advanced tow assist is automatically disabled and the touch screen displays a message.

To disable advanced tow assist, either:

  • Engage the transmission into an alternative gear, i.e., deselect (R).

  • Touch the advanced tow assist icon on the camera menu screen.

  • Push the terrain response rotary control downward. The previous terrain response driving program selection is resumed.

The touch screen displays a canceled message.
